When Yahoo gave me the opportunity to build a new consumer-tech Web site from scratch in 2013—including hand-picking writers to hire—Dan Tynan was my first call. I’d been a fan of (well, OK, been threatened by) his humor, insight, and expertise for years. He was a perfect fit for our little Yahoo Tech band, and his sparkling weekly columns were fantastic. Everything I’d hoped. It was all great—until he stopped writing them… …because… we PROMOTED him to Editor in Chief.
He took a hardy little band, spread physically across the whole country, and provided direction, vision, coherence, and communication... with HUMOR and praise and confidence. He is the best of the best—the cleverest, funniest, most accessible tech writer, who somehow manages to double as a people-centric, visionary editorial leader. Hire him!
Ex. Dan is very detail-oriented and produced great results for the company... Also, Dan would immediately recognize that I copy/pasted this from LinkedIn's "suggested" text when you try to recommend someone. He'd probably laugh, then yell at me nicely, then laugh again. That's because Dan is indeed detail-oriented, but he's also direct, supportive, sharp, talented, and hilarious. In my short time working with Dan at Yahoo I learned a great deal about the craft and was stunned by his tremendous work ethic, insightful edits, and affable demeanor. His deep knowledge of the tech space is only exceeded by his desire to create great content about it. And he's a mensch, as my people say (given, my people say that a lot. But seriously, he's a mensch.)

Dan Tynan has an extraordinary knowledge of the tech business tucked away in his noggin, works ridiculously hard both on his own and when leading a team, regularly makes the English language get up and dance a little, and brings a badly-needed bit of cheerful snarkiness to the whole enterprise. I felt lucky to count him as a co-worker at Yahoo; you should enjoy the same privilege, so hire this guy already.
Dan is an exemplary cynic. He would be the first to tell you that you should not believe what I write here. But, in fact, you should. Dan is a sharp, witty, to-the-point, fast and accurate writer and editor. I worked with him at Yahoo for over three years and enjoyed every cynical moment.

Dan is of a dying breed. He doesn't just get the story and string the words together, he crafts a story and produces content that exceeds expectations. The bonus is he can write with wit and scathing sarcasm, yet he's a joy to work with.
